Randolph the Red-Gunned Cowboy December 13, 2007Posted by davegoblog in Personal, Pop Culture.
I remember singing a Christmas song parody of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer in elementary school during music class. My wife had never heard of it, so I went a-searchin’ online and came back with this recent post on Asara’s Mental Meanderings. It’s as real as my skull and it does exist. Here, let me show you the lyrics:
Randolph the red-gunned cowboy
Had a very shiny gun
And if you ever saw it,
You would turn around and run!
All of the other cowboys
Used to laugh and call him names
They never let poor Randolph
Join in any poker games!
Then one foggy Christmas Eve
Santa came to say
Randolph with your gun so bright,
Won’t you shoot my wife tonight?
Then how the cowboys loved him
And they shouted out with glee,
Randolph the Red-Gunned Cowboy
You’ll go down in shootin’ gallery!
It’s not likely to be sung at any school Christmas/Holiday concerts this year, but you could definitely hear it back in a time with drinking on The Muppet Show, cartoon violence shown on screen, and no bike helmets on any kids.
As a final note, Brad Flory claims to have authored this parody when he was eight years old in the mid-1960s.
