Since my Halloween post won’t be ready today, I’m breaking my unwritten rule of not writing about politics on this blog. On November 6, 2007, residents of Berea, Ohio, will go to the polls to elect their new mayor from among three candidates: Cyril Kleem, Dik Malott, and Darrin Smith. I haven’t made a decision yet, but I hope this exercise will allow me to make an informed choice. So far, I’ve been only been able to go by the slogans on their campaign signs that have sprouted throughout the city.

  • Cyril Kleem – Vision with Action!
  • Dik Malott – People Before Politics
  • Darrin Smith – WIFB: What’s In it For Berea?

I’m glad they all chose different sentence classifications – Exclamatory, Declarative, and Interrogative. I’ll end with an Imperative sentence: Go vote on November 6.

Ha! I do wish that choosing which candidate to vote for was as easy as selecting which sentence structure you like best among their slogans. Oh well, at least we can vote and make a choice!
